Kozhikode,30 Jan (H.S.):Vengalil Srinivasan, husband of Indian Olympic Association President and Rajya Sabha MP P. T. Usha, passed away in the early hours of Friday at the age of 63.

A native of Ponnani in Kerala’s Malappuram district, Srinivasan collapsed at his residence in Perumalpuram, Thikkodi, around 12.30 a.m.

Family members rushed him to a nearby private hospital in Perumalpuram immediately after the incident.

However, doctors declared him dead on arrival, according to sources.

The sudden demise has sent shockwaves through sporting and social circles in Kerala and across the country.

Srinivasan was a former kabaddi player and had served with distinction in the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), retiring as an Inspector.

Known among colleagues and friends for his disciplined lifestyle and quiet demeanor, he maintained a lifelong association with sports, even after his retirement from service.

Although he largely stayed away from the public spotlight, Srinivasan was widely seen as a strong pillar of support in PT Usha’s illustrious sporting and administrative journey.

Over the years, he was often seen accompanying her at major sporting events and official functions, especially after her elevation as President of the Indian Olympic Association and her nomination to the Rajya Sabha.

Condolences poured in from political leaders, sports administrators, athletes, and well-wishers.

Several sporting bodies and Olympic officials expressed deep grief, remembering Srinivasan as a grounded individual who played a silent yet significant role behind one of India’s most celebrated athletes.

Funeral arrangements are expected to be held later today.

Close family members, friends, and members of the sporting fraternity are expected to attend the final rites. Further details are awaited.
