Kochi, 22 March (H.S.): The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast intense heat conditions across Kerala over the next three days, warning of rising temperatures and discomfort due to high humidity levels.

According to the IMD, maximum temperatures are likely to reach up to 38°C in Palakkad district until Tuesday. Several districts, including Kollam, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, and Kasaragod, may record temperatures of up to 37°C, while Thiruvananthapuram, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Malappuram, Kozhikode, and Kannur are expected to see temperatures around 36°C.

The department cautioned that the combination of high temperature and humid air is likely to create hot and uncomfortable weather conditions in most districts, particularly in non-hilly regions, between March 22 and 24.

Authorities have urged the public to exercise extreme caution during this period. People are advised to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water and to avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, especially between 11 am and 3 pm, when heat intensity is at its peak.

Meanwhile, there may be slight relief from the heat, with isolated rainfall expected in some districts. The IMD has also warned of the possibility of light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds reaching speeds of up to 40 kmph.

Given the risks associated with lightning, officials have advised residents to remain vigilant and take necessary safety precautions during thunderstorms.
